Concept Generation
We derive the concept of the structure from the architectural style of the city context. We followed the old classical style from the Chittagong old railway station, court building and further more. Our concept is also to follow the
contours and reflect its character on the structure. We want to make the building more eco friendly.
The building itself can make enough energy for its own use. The air and light ventilation spaces and
voids make it more self dependent. We tried to use the utmost energy of the solar power from the
environment sothat it can reduce the artificial energy usage and consumption.
Design Process
The project is to design a university campus which will be used a main campus for the southern university. The site is located on a contour plane beside the Anoara main road which is surrounded by lots of green and vegetation. The southern authority decided to relocate all the temporary campus in this single complex. The project is initiated from 2016 by Prof. M. Ali Ashraf who is presently(2018) working as a pro VC of the southern university and faculty dean of civil engineering department of the same campus.
The dream is began with almost 1 acre piece of land the brief by the authority was quite straight. They want to accommodate all their BBA, Honors and science faculties including the admin zone and the relating services.
As Chittagong is a traditional city consisting of its own traditional building and structures it has its own profile of architecture. So on the point when we come to generate the concept of the campus we pick the traditional architectural form including its aesthetic beauty and space variation. We tried to make the structure in a specific way that it become more variant and confluential by its type on account of its aesthetic and its purpose.
We provide all the services and facilities which is needed by a single student. We think over the every spaces on circulation to make it more dramatic as well as user friendly.
The entrance is created by placing some large colonial columns which is a symbol of the lcal traditional architecture as well as a part of the huge structure.
We tried to make the building more traditional as well as contemporary. Tring to make the fusion of this two kind , we macerate and blend the forms and levels. The lower part of the structure is more traditional where the upper stories are build in a contemporary style.
